We'll be boarding the Ericson34 in New London, CT on the late afternoon of Thursday, 8/21/08 (1700). Over the course of the next three days we'll be sailing her from her summer dock via Port Jefferson and Manhasset Harbor through Hell Gate back to the Highlands, NJ. This is an advanced class, and, needless to say, we'll make it 'interesting'. The detailed course planning, taking into account tides and currents, is most challenging. Students will learn how to manage these long coastal passages in tidal waters. We may decide to stop at different locations along the way, but, regardless of the plans, you'll enjoy the beautiful scenery in this most enticing sailing area.
Be prepared to practice all skills of the Coastal Navigation course. Please read up on all material from previous courses, especially the systems sections of the Bareboat class. This course will challenge you very broadly on all areas of advanced vessel- handling, competent skippering and emergency management. A true learning laboratory!
We will provide transportation to New London for a nominal charge, if there is a demand.

Starting October 2007, the ASA has introduced a one time certification fee. For an additional $39 fee, newly certified Basic Keelboat sailors will receive a package of valuable member benefits from the ASA. This add-on fee will bring several benefits to those that bopt for ASA Certification. For this fee you can look forward to receiving your personalized ASA membership card, which will list all the ASA levels for which you have been certified. You will gain access to ASA's online certification database, where you can review your certification levels and provide us with your current contact information. Finally you'll receive a complimentary one-year ASA membership which includes: a free one-year subscription to ASA's Quarterly Members' Magazine, a free one-year subscription to Sailing Magazine and various nautical discount coupons. At NJSS, we will take $20 off the cost of an ASA Basic Coastal Cruising Course if you did opt for the ASA Membership membership. This takes the cost of the ASA membership down to just $19!

* THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS TRIP 2008 will follow the path of the previous trips. A pre-departure briefing in Pt. Pleasant will be scheduled several weeks in advance and will feature Jimmy Buffet songs and Pain Killer. All participants will get the pre sail briefing while relaxing in a social setting. ASA Certification for Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Chartering and Cruising Catamaran was available. All are welcome to just came along for the experience. The price is $1,495 / person which included 7 days of sailing, 7 breakfast, 7 lunch and 4 dinners + all mooring taxes. This 2008 trip which will be in April 4 - 12, 2008 and will include instruction on a Full size cruising catamaran and or a 50' Sloop. ASA 104 and 114 will be offered!

* Island Packet 45 One way Delivery Trip Again this fall we will be offering a one way delivery workshop on our Island Packet 45. This trip is scheduled for October 11 (October 12 is the back up date in the event of unsafe cobditions on the 11th) We will be sailing from Keyport, NJ to Pt Pleasant. The trip begins at 7:30AM. The ASA IQ will be offered from our location in Pt. Pleasant, NJ. We have applied to the United States Coast Guard to approve this clinic for the recipients to receive a Certificate of Training which qualifies them for a United States Limited Coast Guard license without having to take the exam at the USCG Station:
